Strategic early intervention

The best chance for their future smile

Dr John Perry prides himself on a conservative approach to tooth movement, waiting for just the right time to start orthodontics. In some cases it may be beneficial to start treatment at a young age to encourage healthy growth of the teeth and jaws. However, in most cases we can wait until your child has most of their adult teeth. For your peace of mind, and to understand when it’s the right time to start treatment, we recommend booking an assessment from age 7.

FAQs

SOME ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS WE HEAR MOST FROM OUR PATIENTS:

You do not need a referral to see an orthodontist and appointments can be made directly with our practice. Always check your orthodontist is registered with the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists (NZAO) before making a booking.

Yes! You can purchase a Shock Doctor mouthguard from our practice to wear over your braces or clear aligners so you are protected while playing contact sports. We also provide custom-made professional mouthguards for extra protection and comfort once treatment is complete.

Yes, you can still play an instrument when wearing braces or Invisalign clear aligners. The more you practice your instrument, the faster you will get used to wearing the orthodontic appliance.

Most patients do not notice a significant difference in their speech when they have orthodontic treatment. However, it can take a short period of time to get used to the feeling of having metal braces or clear aligners in your mouth.

The process of putting braces on is comfortable. Your teeth and gums can feel sensitive as the teeth begin to move during the first day or two of wearing braces. The sensitivity will settle after a couple of days.

Treatment times vary depending on the individual patient and the level of treatment required. On average, the treatment period can be anything between 6 and 24 months for braces and clear aligners.

We recommend bringing your child in for an orthodontic assessment from the age of 7 years. At Peak Orthodontics, we take a holistic approach to orthodontic treatment and we will not only look at your child’s teeth but also check their jaws are growing favourably.

We combine in-person check ups with our at-home monitoring app to provide high quality care and ensure you attend appointments only when needed. On average, we recommend you attend our practice approximately every 6-8 weeks for braces or every 10-12 weeks for Invisalign clear aligners.

Yes, free on-site parking is available at our practice for your convenience.
